Marshall Mutterings - June

I must start with some very sad news.
Most motor club stage rally marshals have had to deal with a Mr Ian Evans.
He sadly passed away recently after fighting ill health for many years.
Ian has been Chief Marshal on the Nicky Grist for many years and stage commander on so many rallies I cannot name them all.
Only in April he was stage commander on the 7 valley that is how dedicated he was to the sport.
I worked with him on WRGB when he ran the Alwen stage for many years, he was known as Commander Alwen!
Our condolences must go to his family, daughter Tru, who brought forward her wedding so as Ian could be there, Ryan Debi.
On a slightly happier note Paul Spooner has been released home after his accident with David Tomlin, get well soon.
We are now confident that the Britpart Woodpecker Rally has got the route through NRW etc, more information next month.
The Greenleaves Classic Tour has a good healthy entry, let's hope they keep coming in.
I have been checking the radio licences and getting them up to date, will be looking at operators as well.

“Kickin’ off the Year” First Autosolo / PCA of 2026
Our first Autosolo/PCA of 2026 kicked off with the usual bit of British uncertainty. Looking out of the window on Saturday morning and seeing a frost sent a bit of a shiver through me, and anyone who has spent time there will know that Defford is not the warmest place to be at the best of times!
Thankfully the drive over was met with sunshine, and the weather stayed kind to us throughout the day.
We ran four tests on what proved to be a pleasantly slippery surface, keeping competitors on their toes and making for some entertaining driving.
A special mention goes to our newest and youngest driver, Joseph, aged just 14, taking part in his first event of this kind. He made excellent progress throughout the day, keeping mistakes to a minimum and improving with every run - a fantastic effort and great to see new drivers coming into the sport.
As always, a few competitors provided plenty of entertainment along the way, which certainly kept the marshals smiling!
Results are available on Sapphire and will be posted here shortly.
Many thanks to all the competitors for putting on a great show, and to the setup crew, marshals, and everyone involved in making the event a success.
We’re already looking forward to the next one.
